Got a self-care practice in this month of love
Oddly, true self-care does not come as easily to some as you might expect, given that it tends to focus on our personal needs now and for our future wellness and happiness. Moondust Cosmetics® has ideas to lavish some healthy love on yourself in a month dedicated to taking time to show love and care. This year it coincides with the auspicious arrival of the Lunar New Year’s Water Tiger year – with the promise of health, rewards both financial and romantic and healing!
Here are the top 3 categories of self-care from Team Moondust Cosmetics®:
REST
If you guessed more sleep, you are right, but that’s not all there is to rest. How about…
- Take a break from technology to rest your eyes and your nervous system.
- Take a nap and get a healthy horizontal 20 minutes in to refresh.
- Meditate to simply be still in body and let the mind rest for 2 minutes to 20 or even 2 hours. Feel the rest you get in meditation that seems to create time and energy.
REFLECT
Once you’ve mastered the habit of rest – either as a night’s quality sleep or meditation’s rest – you’ll be in a position to listen to your body. It holds good guidance for you if you are still enough for long enough to pick it up.
Here are other ways to tune in and really reflect on what is happening, what you want to feel or do:
- Journal writing to capture ideas, whether you reread them or not they move you forward.
- Reading, sitting with lit candles, breathing and giving yourself time to take in beauty around you or the ideas of others helps you find your own path, if given time.
- Exercise as an extension of your meditation with yoga, Pilates or gentle walks that allow you to truly hear your thoughts.
RESTORE
- You may interpret restoration as physical activity where you gain strength and reduce stress. So that might mean, an urban hike for new stimulus or some forest bathing to have a spiritual experience combined with healthy activity.
- Others turn to gentle past times and creative pursuits to reconnect to themselves through art, pottery, drawing, painting or even performance arts.
- Treats may also be involved! And they also count as restorative self-care with immediate pleasure and long term well ness benefits. Could it be a facial? A really good piece of chocolate? A health restoring treatment like massage or acupuncture?
Of course, restoring and rejuvenating yourself in your self-care rituals all starts with taking time to calm and to collect your thoughts with some of the examples above.
What is common to all forms of self-care?
Dr. Moondust, founder of Moondust Cosmetics® trusts that compassion is the foundation of both our willingness to care for ourselves as well as others in our midst. When we practice self-compassion we might be gentler with ourselves, less critical and more loving.
“Once we allow ourselves to feel this communion, it is only natural,” says Dr. Moondust, “to extend that caring to others, especially the disabled, or isolated in our community. It may start with small steps like enjoying the beauty of our trees and gardens, our bird and animal friends. Appreciating our place in the world while caring for ourselves might naturally lead to sharing that good, calm and healthy feeling with others.”
